Hash Bash is an annual event held in Ann Arbor, Michigan, originally focused on reforming federal, state, and local marijuana laws. The first Hash Bash was held on Saturday, April 1, 1972. Today, it's a celebration of legalization, culture, and community activism.
Hash Bash always takes place on the first Saturday of April. For 2026, the date is Saturday, April 4th. The event officially kicks off at high noon on the University of Michigan Diag.
The main rally takes place on the University of Michigan Diag (913 S University Ave). The Monroe Street Fair has historically run concurrently just a block away on Monroe Street; however, we have heard that the Monroe Street Fair is not officially happening this year. Yes! Hash Bash is completely free to attend. No tickets are required for the main event on the Diag. The Monroe Street Fair has historically been a free companion event, but we have heard that it is not officially happening this year. Recreational cannabis is legal in Michigan for adults 21+. However, the Diag is University of Michigan property, which receives federal funding. Technically, consumption is prohibited on campus grounds. Historically, enforcement is very lax during the event, but discretion is advised. Public consumption laws still apply in the city.
Bring water, sunscreen, comfortable shoes (lots of standing), cash for vendors, and good vibes. Dress in layers—Michigan weather in April is unpredictable.
